This allows the ninja to move with stealth or to trick their opponents. However, it does not grant one the properties of said objects or skills of that person, meaning turning into a weapon will not allow you to cut an opponent and turning into a dog will not give you a great sense of smell.
This technique can also be used in conjunction with someone, who may a person, a pet or a summoning creature, in which case it is called Konbi Henge (Combination Transformation). However, its principles remain the same.

Description: Kawarimi no Jutsu is a basic Ninjutsu technique. When in danger the ninja will quickly substitute themself with another nearby object. This can be a block of wood or even another person. This allows the ninja to quickly flee and hide while the original object takes the brunt of their opponents attack. Naturally, it won't work with another person unless their skill gap is enormous, and the object to replace oneself with must be close in size and weight to the ninja themselves. This technique must be set up a little ahead when fighting skilled opponents, otherwise, you may end up getting struck because you wouldn't have enough time to use it.

Background:
Kiotsu was born in the fire country with his parents always living there. While he was growing up he was always a trouble maker like he was a lost dog without a home and that’s when they decided that it was time for him to take on the families famous pet techniques. With the litter that they where having they allowed Kiotsu to chose the first one of the litter. Kiotsu looked at all the pups and found the one that was his Mouken. Soon after his parents went off on an assassination mission for the hokage at the time *Uyko* only to end up falling into a trap and getting killed.
Once word reached him about his parents he secluded himself with his pet nin Mouken in his home determined to one day become a ninja of konohagaure no sato. Once he was 8 years old he entered the academy learning that with ninjutsu and taijutsu was the way he wanted to fight knowing that this was what he would do and on that day he set his goal to become one of the ANBU black op shinobi like his parents and avenge their deaths.
Soon after he passed the Genin exams with marks like those of the normal ninjas and never made top of his class. Once he became a genin he worked hard to earn the respect and to prove that he wasn’t the same trouble maker he was as a kid now he helped the village in more ways than one with Mouken at his side. After about a year since he became a genin the Chuunin exams was up for those who wanted to enter but he was out on a learning exercise to find out clues of other members of the clan and got back to late.
Since his first exams he couldn’t get into Kiotsu went searching for the clues of his family trying to see what they might know about his parents death when this recent time the Chuunin exams came again.
