The chill wafted off the water. The water was glossy, smooth as glass. The tide shifted slowly, drifting her along softly. Her black hair floated all around her, clouding her face and vision of the sky. All the same, her eyes were closed. She was relaxed; laid back and enjoying the lovely day. She was only a few hundred feet out, but the mist, as always, enveloped the water, enshrouding her view of the coast.

It had been a quiet morning. She had found her way from the Land of Waves to this small inlet, and took the opportunity of peace to spend some quality time with herself. With Syra's hectic schedule, she didn't have a moment for herself. The day grew on, but the weather stayed the same. She dozed off every once in a while, only to awake to the thought of how much she wished she didn't have to return to the shore.

It was a rare moment of peace for Ukyo. He couldn't find Syra in Kirigakure no Sato, so, with a lot of persuasion from the two sentients blades' side, he decided to just go and relax on the coast. It was also a new experience for him - enjoying himself, that is. He decided to try it after Taiyou dropped him a hint on how the usual courting process would go. If you want the time you might be able to spend together to be enjoyable, you should first learn how to enjoy some minor things in life by yourself. I understand that it isn't really the ninja way, but we're also humans. You can't just deny your human nature - that was what he said. I guess so... shinobi are still people, no matter how much they try not to be ones.

However, Ukyo's practical mind couldn't just go with things like "chilling out" and "enjoying oneself". In order to calm him about wasting time, Tsuki came up with a nice explanation: You aren't wasting time. You're training to be human. As ridiculous as that sounded, it still made him calm down. Training was useful, and his usual way of passing time as well. Finally having a moment of free time, Ukyo thought about many things he usually didn't. As he was sliding atop the ocean's surface, some new ideas came to his mind.

I think I don't want to be a ninja for much longer. I'm gonna settle down somewhere away from the pressure of a shinobi's life. I'll have to work as an assassin though, since killing people is the only thing I was taught to do, but I can live with that. I'm gonna buy a house somewhere in the countryside and live happily with L... Hey, big plans you've got there, haven't you? Sorry to interrupt, but you are so occupied by your thoughts that you haven't noticed another person's presence. Oh... I see... - replied Ukyo, slightly embarrassed. It was the first time he was this deep in thought, too.

When he saw "the other person", he could hardly keep himself from making a moan. Just when I finally got around to relaxing... I have to stumble upon her. There's no doubt she already noticed me, just didn't make herself known... I know I was looking for her just some little while ago, but for some reason, right now I feel really sorry I found her. However, he had no choice. There was no doubt that Syra noticed him already, as he was just a few dozen feet away from the place she was swimming.

Ukyo was also unhappy to find her because he hadn't decided yet what to think of her. He knew that the Ozanaru clansmen slew his parents when they tried to move to Fire Country, away from... well, many things they didn't like in Kiri and the clan. But he didn't know if Syra knew about this and just hid the truth from him... Either way, I'm getting the bloodline, but keeping my last name. I am never going to accept the name of those who killed my parents. Nice weather it is today, is it not, Syra-san? - he said, walking from the water's surface onto a nearby rock. He recognized her by her specific chakra, and decided against looking in her direction since she might not have had much clothes on.

Wow... You're really far off with your history. It's going to be a pain to work that in. Ah well, that's what challenges are for.

IC: " Enchantingly beautiful," She said, her melodic voice soft and ringing, so much different than the stressed whine of her usual days. " Possibly hauntingly chilly." She spoke slowly, enjoying the peace. She did not bother him with questions, the relaxed, or silent, atmosphere was enjoyable. She sighed softly, treading around to look at him.

" You know, you can look me in the face," She said. " I won't hypnotize you." She remained silent for a few seconds, intaking a huge breath before dipping into the water. She swam quickly into the murky depths, diving upwards and landing beside him on the stone. She still held a relaxed, alert position, even though her body was freezing. She looked at his face once more, and sighed deeply. It troubled her to know that he was in pain.

" Do not hide your feelings from me. You are poor at doing so." She regarded him closely for signs. " It is us, isn't it? What is the problem then? Why do you avoid the Ozanaru?"

OOC: well, like you said, everyone in the Naruverse needs a scarring past Smile

Ukyo found the clan he originated from only to discover that they were the ones to kill his parents

IC: Chilly, - he repeated slowly, looking at his right hand. After he uncovered another part of the sibling blades' past and powers, he noticed an ability he didn't have before. Whenever the swords were unsheathed and with enough concentration, he could use their temperature controlling power as if it was his own, even though it was still not at the same level as if he used it through the blades themselves. He looked at the small ice shards in his right hand and smiled. He currently had fixed the swords in such a position so that about one fifth of their blades showed.

If you're cold, I guess I could do something to warm you up, - he said, still not turning to face Syra. Realization of how his words could be understood hit him in a few moments. Er... I mean... I learned how to make things hot... - he paused, embarrassed at the nonsense he was saying. For some reason, it seemed that along with his cold-heartedness, his ability to think and act cool also started to disappear. Oh, damn... I learned to generate heat, yeah, that's it, - he was a bit relieved that he finally said what he wanted without looking stupid.

The cold wind blew past the rock, moving Ukyo's long hair and revealing his face to Syra. His eyes showed he was worried, and maybe there was even a bit of anger in them. He wasn't angry with her, or maybe he was - the chuunin couldn't decide that for himself. Syra-san, - he finally began, - have you ever checked your own clan's archives? One can find a lot of interesting details there. Especially if one has things which identify him as an Ozanaru, given to him by Syra Ozanaru herself, - he was referring to the two scrolls she asked him to take back to Kiri. I was interested in the clan's history, so I spent some time reading the ancient scrolls... and not that ancient, too. I stumbled upon an interesting piece of information... considering me. And how my parents were killed when they tried to escape to Fire Country. Did you know that? He asked, finally turning to her and looking her in the eyes. He wasn't implicating anything, or blaming her for anything. He was just wondering.

Syra remained silent for many moments, her backed turn. " Yes, I did know that. It is one of the Ozanaru secrets. You see, the bloodline has a serious side effect. It... It can take over you. It will consume your spirit and control the body. The demon's thoughts will gnaw at your mind. Often this forces people to go insane, and kill. Even if the demon was docile in life, his soul, his essence, was that of a murderer.

" It was my brother who killed your parents. He was on a mission to find knowledge about them. While we do allow people to leave, secrets must stay like that. We have a very... bloody, and hated past. If anyone of this continent learned what we have done, we would surely be banned from society. He went to them, and did find out that they were leaving. But, something must have taken over him. He murdered them without reason. He was taken to trial, and at that point we learned that his mind was no more. He was to be taken into insanity ward, and never to use another weapon or jutsu again. His arm and hands were sealed.

" My father kept him under control, but since I have fallen under lead, I have been unable to do so. It is my duty to kill him now... But I haven't been able to bring myself to do it. He was the one who saved my life. He risked everything and lost it all, just for me. Soon. I will end his misery. I doubt I could at this point; he was strong when he was human, and is even stronger now. The demon in him surges with great power; I can not compare."

Syra let this all sink in for a few moments. " I'm sorry for your loss." Her voice was sincere, her tone comforting. " But there is nothing we can do now. We must look to the future. If you ever need advice or a friend, I am here. Always."

She did not show it, but she was embarrassed. She was the kind of person to be embarrassed but glad of such emotion. She was truly shy and averting underneath, but the personality of a wise leader was slowly settling in above. She hoped that she wasn't losing a part of her personality, rather growing it and becoming a better person.

Thanks, and... don't be sorry, - replied Ukyo, - I never even knew them. It's not that I have lost anybody just because this... story came up. I only lost the hope of ever finding my family, - he thought. But there's always the future, and the chance at starting your own. Besides, you will always have at least two friends - or should I even say a brother and a sister? - by your side. The two siblings' words made him feel much better. Yeah... some tough relationship we had just until recently, - he smiled, both in his though and with his lips, - but thank you. And I am still going to find that man and give him a painful death. He deserves it just for loosing it to the demon within.

This is insane, - said Ukyo, switching the subject, - why would anybody want a bloodline that would just drive them insane at one point? Seriously, even the idea of being the host for a demon is sick! I know it must be surprising to hear this from me, but what have the ninja villages done to their people? Forcing them into believing that their "bloodline limits" are so special, while in reality it's just... the clan people are all related, more or less... and they keep the purity of their clan's blood... it's just sick... - he sat down, heavy thoughts on his mind. He put his right hand on the rock, and it's surface got covered in frosting where he touched it.

Even having said all this, I still have no choice but to accept the clan's bloodline. Nobody can just live normally without their bloodline if they have one... the Hyuugas go blind if they do not train their Byakugan, the Uchihas have bad eyesight and slow reaction time... the Ozanaru become crippled... did you ever think just how much of their lives your clansmen give up for power?

Syra chuckled at his last statement. " We did not choose to have demon arms. Did you not read the ancient history? This is what we aquired from our ancestors. We could give it all up; eliminate all our ties with demons, but that would be forsaking our heritage. I won't do it, even if it means my death.

" I did not do it for power. I did it so that people won't forget that we are of two races. If we were only humans, we would lose our identity. We would lose the past three thousand years of legacy. We would lose our home, our community, everything. This has nothing to do with power, or ego. We do it because we won't hide from who we are.

" The bloodline his harsh, but it is the way of our life. We grow wise with dual perspectives. It is not so much different than those blades of yours. But... if you truly believe that you don't want it, there might be one operation. We have a theory, that has been tested on the insane, that we can remove the arm and spirit simply by destroying the seals as we would destroy the demonic contracts. In that means, you would have all your demonic blood destroyed, and would cease to be a part of our clan. Your history, would essentially, be erased.

" I do hope that you don't consider this. Avoiding your problems will resolve anything. I'm bringing this clan to the top. I'm creating equality for humans, demons, poor, rich. I'm making this world peaceful, a beautiful place. You can come with me to the top, or watch me from the side. It's your choice."

Every clan has a heritage... every clan has a legacy. But it all started the same. Lust for power. The scrolls prove nothing. History is always written so that it would make the people who were in control back then look good. And then the next ruler reveals the "horrible truth" behind his predecessors' actions. It works this way everywhere there is history, - said Ukyo, his voice sad and troubled, - I will not reject the bloodline, in honor of my parents. Come with her to the top... tempting, isn't it? Not really... for some reason, I don't feel like becoming the most powerful shinobi of all time anymore. Maybe it's just that I'm tired from all the recent events, but...

I just want to live my life so that I'll have no regrets, - he said the last part of his thoughts out loud, - I do not seek greatness, not anymore. Right now, more than anything, I seek a reason to live. Ukyo took a handful of sea water, and, having hid it from Syra, made snow out of it. He then rolled it into a small snowball. But this is something I've realized just today, - he said, standing up and walking a few meters away from the rock he was previously sitting on, - few people have a great purpose, which you could really say is worth living for, in their lives. So, I might as well forget about the reason part and enjoy it while it lasts. Having said so, he turned around and threw the snowball at Syra, a smile on his face.

Syra laughed again. This boy was so foolish, but at least he wasn't power hungry. She might still be able to save him. Wisdom was always difficult to obtain, and even harder to comprehend.

" You will not reject the bloodline, yet you say it is for a lust of power? Who will say that you will not lust for power? You will use it only to have power, to show that you have power, rather than having an honourable death. Your hypocrisy astounds me. Yes, there has been Ozanaru that have killed innocent people, slaughtered hundreds, but they all did what they believed in. If you can't follow your own words, how could I possibly put my trust in you? The demon arm is not a toy, as you can tell. But neither is it a tool, or a burden.

" But you will never understand, will you? For some reason, you can't seem to accept us for what we are. You can't just have the bloodline and say that you forsake the rest of the clan. That is not how it works. And until you understand this, you will not get the bloodline. You will lose your arm, and there is nothing you can do about it.

" What will you choose? Throw away your conflicting hypocrisy, or conform to what I believe?" Her voice was soft, containing a hint of amusement. It was obvious to the empathetic that she was lying, but she doubted Ukyo had developed this sense well. The snowball whizzed to her head, but was melted before reaching her, by a small rush of air from inside her shirt.

I guess you didn't understand me correctly. I am not saying that nowadays all that your bloodline exist for is to satisfy the hunger for power. But it was once developed just for that reason, - he walked back and sat by Syra. It irritated him that she didn't even try to take his words seriously, or consider them as possibly containing some wise idea. She just said that he had conflicting hypocrisy... She might not even have any argument to counter what I just said, so she's changing the subject to me, - thought Ukyo.

I did not say I would forsake the clan. I only told you not to expect me to like it, but I will respect its decisions, if I am to become a part of it, - the chuunin paused for several moments, taking a full breath of the ocean air, - To be honest, I don't even want the bloodline, but I'd rather have both arms. If you wish, you can have my word that I will never use the bloodline's power.

Don't you think you're going a little too far with this? Not at all. I already told you, I just want to live my life so that I'll have no regrets. I don't care about clans, legacies and all that. But I need both arms to lead a normal life. I agree with Ukyo. If it's freedom or power - I choose freedom. But accepting the clan's bloodline isn't gonna cost you your freedom! No, it is... in a way.
