Idea Name: Puppet Mastery
Creator: Tempus Incarnum
Description: Rules on how to build, operate, and types of puppets

Alright, I noticed that there aren't any set rules or definitions for puppet masters, either from Suna or using the Dead Soul Technique ("Zombie puppets"). So here's my attempt to fill that niche. This should also give any potential puppet masters a few more options for strengths/weaknesses. Please note this is only Version 1.

TYPES OF PUPPETS:
Generally speaking, Puppets can be broken up into three types:

-Defense: These puppets are tough and resiliant. They tend to be slower and weaker than the other two types, but their endurance makes up for this. They are often equipped with long-range attacks, and one or two CQC weapons.

-Assault: Assault puppets often sport dizzying arrays of deadly and expotic traps. Assault types have low endurance, but high attack power as well. They are often fast and nimble, but that is not a requirement.

-Combination: Combination type puppets are technically one puppet in two or more parts. They may be an average Assault type, or defense type, but they often have deadly combination techniques that can result in spectacular kills or increase their power.

NOTE: -Shell/Body: Full shell and body type puppets are unique constructs, and known to have only been used by Sasori of the Red Sand.

HOW MANY PUPPETS YOU CAN CONTROL:
Gennin or lower: Gennin may control up to one puppet, and are immobile while controlling it.

Chunin: 2-3. Most Chunnin can control 1 puppet and still dodge incoming attacks. Any more htan that and they cannot move and manipulate puppets at the same time.

Jonnin: Max 5. Can dodge while controlling up to three.

Sannin: Same as Jonnin, but they can dodge while manipulating four

Kage: 7, full dodge up to 5, partial at 6, immobile at seven.

-NOTE: Certain Jutsus/scrolls/summons (*Ten masterpieces*) can increase the number of puppets you can control at any one time, but other than that, the upper limit seems to be absolute.

EQUIPING PUPPETS:

Treat installation/implantiation of an exotic trap as training a Jutsu of the appropriate rank. Spikes and blades for all level puppets UPON CREATION of that puppet may all be installed/implanted in one set of posts. If you upgrade an old puppet, you must do "training posts" for the upgrades, including new sets of spikes and blades.

-Gennin level puppets may have one exotic trap each, and two spikes and blades locations.

-Chunin level puppets may each have up to two exotic traps/implants, in addition to the standard spikes and blades (three locations)

-Jonin level puppets may have four exotic traps/implants each, in addition to the standard spikes and blades (four locations)

-Sannin level puppets recieve an extra set of spikes and blades

-Kage level puppets may have up to five exotic traps/implants each, in addition to the standard spikes and blades (five locations)

A puppet master may also install/implant a number of traps/implants into his own body, but each trap installed counts as a jutsu of the same rank. Effectively, you lose a jutsu slot with every trap installed in your own body.

EQUIPMENT:
Spoiler:

*Note: All weapons have the “must be familiar with puppet weapons” requirement for installation, except when otherwise stated, and in addition to any other stated requirements. Referred to as “Standard requirement”, or “SR”

*Note: Type describes whether it’s an offensive, defensive, or combination type puppet weapon.

*Note: Installing traps in combination types is easy. Treat installation of each component of a combination type trap as an individual trap of that rank when installed in a puppet. For example, if you wanted the Iron Maiden, one puppet would be installed with the chamber (B-rank trap), and another, the modified blades (B-rank trap). See? Easy peezy lemon squeezy.

Spikes and blades
Rank: D
Type: All
Requirements: Standard (must be familiar with puppets)
Description: The puppet master installs a number of hidden knives and wakzashi-like weapons throughout the puppet, often in or disguised as limbs, joints, or other body parts.

Hidden weapon, C
Rank: D
Type: All
Requirements: SR
Description: The puppet master has hidden weapons deadlier than the standard spikes and blades throughout his puppet, such as Tekagi, Spiked chains, or the like.
Special: May only be used with Gennin level weapons.

Hidden Weapon, B
Rank: C
Type: All
Requirements: SR
Description: Improved hidden weapons are installed. This version uses deadlier weapons, such as hidden katanas and paper bombs.
Special: May only be used with Chunin level weapons (so while it is C-rank, Gennin cannot use this technique).

Hidden Weapon,A
Rank: B
Type: All
Requirements: SR
Description: The puppet master installs even deadlier weapons into his creation.
Special: May only be used with Jonin level weapons

Poison Gas
Rank: C
Type: All
Requirements: Standard
Description: The Puppet has a hidden nozzle on its body from which it can spray a funnel of poisonous gas at the opponent. Enough poison for three uses.

Weapon scroll
Rank: Varies (see description)
Type: All
Requirements: Must be familiar with sealing items in scrolls
Description: Scrolls are usually installed within a puppet in order to provide a way to reload a weapon with limited ammunition, such as senbon needles or acid. The rank of the scroll depends on what the puppeteer chose to seal in it, but in general are no higher than B.
*Special: Someone else can create the scroll, but SR must be possessed for proper installation of the scroll.

Acid Launcher
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Requirements: See weapon scroll
Description: Sends a small blast of highly corrosive acid at the opponent. Can be dodged, but is capable of eating through several inches of stone. Because of the acid’s corrosive nature, each use of the weapon requires a corresponding scroll (B-rank). One scroll, one use.

Senbon launcher
Rank: B
Type: Defensive
Requirements: SR
Description: The puppet master installs a machine-gun like senbon launcher into the puppet. The storm of needles this weapon can unleash is capable of totally shredding a body caught within its blast.

Senbon Bomb
Rank: A
Type: Offensive, Deffensive
Requirements: SR
Description. A one-use weapon, a senbon bomb is a high velocity projectile that detonates at the puppet masters discretion, spraying a cloud of needles where it goes off. Though far more difficult to avoid than a launcher, it is one use only.

Stinger
Rank:C
Type: Defensive
Requirements: SR
Description: A large, segemented stinger that generally originates near the puppet’s tailbone, the stinger is primarily mounted on defensive puppets. Its size and weight makes it unsuitable for assault types.

Buzzsaw
Rank: B
Type: Assault
Requirements: SR
Description: The puppet has buzzsaws hidden in a part of its body, making it a deadly proposition to face in close combat, unless the opponent wants to look like ground beef.

Carapace
Rank: B
Type: Defensive
Requirements: SR
Description: The puppet sports a large, heavy carapace that makes damaging it a difficult proposition. The shell usually serves this one purpose, though special shells with extra capabilities have been known to surface.

Wings
Rank: A
Type: All
Requirements: SR
Description: Wings are a rare, but loved, addition to puppets. Though relatively simple to add to a puppet, the great finesse and skill required to operate them in addition to other puppets and traps means that they are rarely seen.
Special: A character using a winged puppet can control one less puppet than normal. This penalty stacks if he is using more than one winged puppet.

Iron Maiden
Rank: B
Type: Combination
Requirements: SR, two puppets
Description: A combination type trap, the Iron maiden is undeniably lethal. One puppet in the combination has its chest cavity modified so that it can trap unwary opponents, while the other has its spikes and blades specially modified to fit into slots on the chamber, and thus pierce the trapped opponent. Once trapped, the finishing move is nearly unavoidable.

Razor wire
Rank: A
Type: Combination
Requirements: SR, two or more puppets
Description: The puppet master installs lengths of razor-sharp and tough wire within the puppets, who then connect their strings to each other and move rapidly, proving capable of cutting through softer materials such as wood with ease.

Steam Spike
Rank: A
Type: Offensive
Requirements: SR
Description: The puppet has a large spike hidden somewhere in its body  When activated, the spike blasts out of the body with a blast of steam (from the chakra pulse powering it) emanates form camoflauged cooling vents, and the spike violently blasts outwards. The attack is a short ranged one, and cannot be used repeatedly (due to the cooling and reset time between uses ((approx two posts between each use)) ), but if it connects, it is devastating in its destructive piercing power.

Overdrive system
Rank: S
Type: Offensive
Requirements: SR, built or examined in-depth at least one steam spike
Description: The overdrive system works on a similar principle to the steam spike, only on a larger scale. The puppets entire body is modified, with reinforced joints and metal throughout in order to withstand the incredible strain of this trap, while pistons are added to the arms and legs to enhance its strength and mobility. Vents on the puppets back open up and begin belching steam as the puppet master floods the puppet with chakra, giving it immensely enhanced powers of speed and strength. However, this great power is not without its drawbacks. If used for too long, the puppet may tear itself apart, and the puppet master cannot focus on nearly as many puppets while controlling the beserking and near-out of control puppet.
Special: Puppet master can control two less puppets while this trap is active, cannot be used for more than 4 posts in a row before one trap per post is destroyed by the immense strain. Once half the puppet’s traps are destroyed, its remaining traps are inoperable (it has shaken apart its delicate triggers, essentially). This trap requires four (count ‘em) slots to install, due to the many modifications required, though only one need be S-rank. Usable once per fight.

Dragon Skin
Rank: S
Type: Defensive
Requirements: SR, must have built at least one carapace and one chakra shield
Description: The puppet master builds a specially modified carapace onto a defensive type-puppet. This carapace contains a chakra shield generator that, when activated, produces a oscillating chakra shield in a bubble shape. This shield can protect the puppet master, and/or any nearby puppets. The shield is incredibly robust, and can withstand all but the most apocalyptic of attacks. However, the special liquid used in making this unique shield is dangerously unstable and corrosive when charged with chakra, and the puppet master risks exhaustion maintaining such a large chakra shield.
Special: Can be maintained for two rounds before liquid begins corroding systems. Each post maintained past that, a trap is destroyed. Once half the puppet’s traps have been destroyed, it is inoperable. Additionally, each round a trap is destroyed, the puppet master loses control of one puppet, to a minimum of one as he diverts more and more attention to keeping the shield stable and the acid inside the carapace. Requires 3 slots to install, incompatible with Chainsaw or Overdrive, Usable once per fight

Chainsaw
Rank: S
Type: Combination
Requirements: SR, two puppets, must have built at least one buzzsaw
Description: This trap requires two puppets. One of which serves as the “Handle” and the other is the “Chain”. The two puppets connect, together, and the Handle throws the Chain  in whichever direction the puppet master desires. A large and deadly buzzsaw made of pure chakra emerges from the Chain, and spins rapidly. This technique is capable of carving through all but the toughest defenses, and can cut through most defenses that provide protection through sheer endurance/thickness/hardness/etc. The two puppets are usually connected to each other with a thick chain.
Special: The Puppet master can control one less puppet when using this technique. Usable once per fight, max duration of four posts. Incompatible with Overdrive or Dragon Skin, requires two slots on each puppet to install. Usable once per fight.

PUPPET TRANSPORTATION:
-Puppets can be summoned through a scroll like any other summon/gear. However, when summoning half (round down) your maximum number of puppets, Kyochise no Jutsu is NOT required. You can summon puppets through your scoll(s) normally above that, but your character risks becoming exhausted (once per fight, MAX). This rule applies even if you're using multiple scrolls. Once you hit 1/2 your max, you run the risk of exhaustion.

NOTE: Gennin may still use a scroll to summon a puppet if they have no puppets active.

(* I don't know if there's an official ruling on this, but my own interpretation of the fluff is that for summoning gear through a scroll, you do not need summoning jutsu. However, more than half the puppet max I assume would be quite the strain on the ninja to summon without the aid of the jutsu*)

-A single puppet may be carried in a ninja's inventory (on their person).

CHAKRA STRINGS:
Chakra strings may be attacked with chakra targeting techniques. Absorption techniques may use the threads as a conduit to the puppet master.

If severed, a chakra string must be replaced before full motion is avalible to the puppet again.

*Well, that's it so far. Stay tuned, for exciting (hah) updates to this unpopular style of ninja-ing!*

Hmm.. Pretty good idea, but I think Genin should be able to control one puppet and lose their ability to dodge because of it.

Kaeor: I'd agree with that too, but Puppets are Chunnin gear, and Dead Soul Technique is a B ranked Jutsu, so unless some other changes happen, that's not an option, sadly.

Genin should be able to use puppets. They can learn the jutsu for it. And I'm sorry, if I want a puppet user, I'd wanna start a genin. Also, Dead Soul Technique is what Kabuto used to momentarily move some corpses, it has nothing to do with puppets.

And I agree Yuwea. But THIS is preventing me form doing that while staying within the site's established rules. And I don't know what exactly my authority is in creating "Training puppets" (Gennin level puppets) and "Dead Soul Technique: Limited" since those are a custom weapon and jutsu, respectively.

Quote:
Hitokugutsu - Human Puppet
Rank: S
Requirements: Another living person (RPC only, not NPC)
Description: Hitokugutsu is a Ninjutsu technique used by a puppet master that was named the Red Scorpion. This technique allows a shinobi to make a puppet which can contain and use chakra. A shinobi does this by making a living human into a puppet. This puppet will maintain the same chakra its original body held when alive. If the original ninja was highly skilled, its puppet can retain these abilities as well. Even the ninja unique body traits will be passed on to its puppet form. Thus the ninja can still use all the original jutsu the ninja once utilized.

That's required for a human puppet. Dead Soul is merely corpse controlling technique. You get none of it's jutsu, it just moves.... And you carry puppets before you get them in scrolls, look at Kankuro.

Haha, excellant, thanks. I'll work on writing up the Gennin rules today. And I realize that Dead Soul technique only lets you manipulate corpses, that was rather the point. It's the only non-custom jutsu that allows non-Suna characters to be similar to puppet masters, and the corpse need not know jutsu or be "super". It would in effect be like controlling Ant, or Salamander, just with a stinky ol body other than a puppet. But now that puppets can be used by anyone, I suppose it isn't strictly required, heh.

On the topic of transportation, I said that a ninja can carry a single puppet in their inventory. Effectively, they can carry one puppet bodily on them.

It won't work, it would require them to know medical jutsu. And it's not ment for long drawn out battles....

Ah, well then. Time to revise, heh. Though it'll be less of a problem now that puppets are open to all.

EDIT: Though med-nin training isn't in the requirements for the jutsu.
