I am in the process of making another character, and debating on styles. So, the question came to mind: If one has the Puppetry Technique, do they need to use a puppet? Also, is it only applicable to puppets? Or can other things be manipulated via Chakra strings as well?

The puppet technique itself needs a puppet, you may manipulate other things by learning the ninjutsu technique " Manipulate advancing blades" or by the puppet technique " Chakra threads"

Pupetters can create their own custom Puppets, when requirements are met. When you create your own, you can customize it to some extent. It could have any forms but it needs a basic skeleton and other things that are lethal to a puppet. That technique: 'Chakra Threads'? I can't seem to find it, but then again, I could be looking in the wrong places.
