A Gust Brushes Against The Mist [RANK TRAINING]

Otamai Jun sat cross-legged outside of the Great Naruto bridge staring out into the water. Although he seemed at ease and relaxed, his mind was troubled. He's saved lives of the villagers, quite a few, when the center of the village collapsed in on itself. Not even hesitating he had jumped right into the middle of the terrifying events, pulling out helpless civilians, pushing rocks and boulders out of the way for the injured, and putting them safely on the outside of the crater. But then the building of the Hokage had exploded, along with the hospital, and him along with everyone he had just rescued, and all the other shinobi were in close proximity to the massive explosion and everyone in and near the crater were targets from the incoming debris. He still wore the bandages under the robes, his injury caused by the impact of an oncoming rock the size of his fist.

The beautiful, one-armed shinobi, Ozanaru Syra flashed through his mind. If she hadn't sent a demon to retrieve him, he most likely wouldn't be sitting there today and would've brought the name of the Otamai to shame. His eyes followed the water ahead of him up to the horizon. He wanted to become faster, stronger, smarter, but in his current state he was at a loss of what he should do next. He knew nothing of his own capabilities. All he knew was the hand-to-hand combat taught to him by his grandfather, which all of the sudden seemed feeble compared to when he sparred Syra, the night before the attack on the village. Now what? Where should he start? As he leaned back his head in his stressed mind-set, he could feel his left pectoral muscles grow sore with the slightest movement. He let out a sigh. Not too many were crossing over the bridge, which at this point in time seemed normal, why would anyone need to enter Kirigakure in its current state? As for the villagers, a good number of them have left on a ship retreat, taking refuge for the time being. Crowds of threes, fours, and small families passed Jun every ten or so minutes. Jun seemed to catch the attention of a wandering shinobi, who bore the four lines on his forehead protector, which displayed his allegiance to the mist.

"Hey there!" Genso Shiatamme walked the bridge with one hand in his pocket, and the other waved as a friendly gesture. Jun looked behind him and realized that it was him that he was talking to, Genso continued, "You look lost."

Jun ignored the wandering shinobi and faced back forward, he doesn't trust anyone who he hasn't trained with. The only names he remembered other than his familes were Onryou Mokuto, and Ozanaru Syra, who now Jun owed his life. Despite being rude, Genso still approached him. Genso's eyes ran over Jun's headband, "Had to get out of the mist huh?"

Jun continued to look forward and Genso realized his small talk was in vain. He chose his next words carefully, "As a shinobi of the mist, I am always there for my allies, through most issues anyway. If there is any way I can help, I am at your service," and with both hands now in his pocket he continued his path down the Great Naruto Bridge, but when he was just a couple steps away, he heard Jun's voice from behind him.

"If that's true, help me get stronger," Jun felt a certain disapproval in himself, pushing his pride to the side to ask for help by a complete stranger.

"Ahhh yes...finally the genin speaks," Jun blinks slightly taken back, and slightly offended being named by his rank. His feeling of disapproval vibrated throughout his body.

"My name is Otamai Jun," he began to stand slowly, but Genso could easily tell by his motions that he was injured. He gestured him to stop as he introduced himself, "My name is Genso Shiatamme. So achieving more power is your conquest, huh? Well. You shouldn't be training in your current state, you probably shouldn't even be moving at all."

Jun looked away, "If your just gunna talk down to me-" Genso cut him off before he could finish his line.

"-BUT I can tell you have a strong determination young genin," He made his way to him, and sat next to him, "What is it you would like to learn?"

Jun had never thought about that. Growing up in his village, he had no knowledge of any jutsus at all, other than the basics he learned in academy, and a select few water techniques displayed by other mist shinobi. But, he has never even attempted any jutsu outside of the ninja academy. After taking a long pause, he couldn't think of a reasonable answer. Genso seemed to pick up on Jun's emotions easy, because he continued to speak, "I see. So. Lets start with this."

"This is a simple technique. Very simple actually, basic for most kirigakure shinobi," He performed the rat sign, and he disappeared in a small cloud of mist, and reappeared on the other side of Jun. The mist felt slightly refreshing brushin against jun's face, "Even in your state, you should be able to get this in just a couple of tries. All you gotta do is push your chakra out of your stomach so it spreads throughout your body. When you could feel it coursing through your system, imagine the place you want to appear."

Sounded simple enough, and Jun was slightly impressed, already imagining how the technique can become useful in his arsenal. He mimicked the handseal and closed his eyes. He felt his chakra spread evenly among his body, and he imagined the spot on the other side of Genso. He opened his eyes, expecting to see genso on the other side of him, but nothing had happened. He didn't move an inch.

"Hmm..." Genso hummed between closed lips, "Try again."

A second attempt had no different an effect than his first.

"Why can't I get it? I followed your directions," Jun tried to mask the irritation in his voice.

"Just hold still" He jumped down the bridge, landing on top of the water beneath them. He cupped his hand, and picked up a small puddle of water, and jumped back onto the bridge.

"An even simpler task," Genso held out his hand holding the water,"Channel chakra in your hand, and cup your hand on top of the water."

"What will that do for me?" Jun asked as he slowly stood up.

"Possibly set you back on the right path," Genso replied, "You see, in the world of shinobi, a ninja's chakra has an essence to it. There are five essences. Fire. Water. Earth. Wind. Lightning. What makes you a ninja is your ability to use your chakra. What makes you a STRONGER ninja is knowing your essence and processing it to your techniques. Each essence can overcome one, and can be equally overcame by another. Fire defeats Earth, but is defeated by water. Water defeats fire, but is defeated by lightning. Earth defeats wind but is defeated by lightning. Wind defeats lightning but is defeated by fire. Lightning defeats earth but is defeated by wind. No one element is stronger than all, its a pattern."

Jun was genuinely interested, and easily took mental notes of the information given to him. He looked down at the puddle held in Genso's cupped hand as he continued, "This is a small exercise to discover your essence," he repeated his instructions, "Channel chakra in your hand, and cup your hand on top of the water. If you have a fire essences, the water in my hand will evaporate into a steam. If you have a water essence, then more water will be produced and it will flood out. If you have an earth essence, the water will turn to mud. If you have a wind essence, it will spin into a small whirlpool. If you have a lightning essence, We will both get a small shock."

They were both standing facing each other. Channeling chakra in his hand, he placed it on top of Genso's, curious at what would happen to the water.

They were standing still, waiting, Jun was anxious. Seconds felt like hours between them as they waited the result. Both of them began to feel movement in their palms. Jun lifted his hand, and they witnessed the water spinning quite rapidly, clockwise, "Ahhh. So your chakra's essence, is wind. Interesting."

They continued to watch the water spin in his hand like a whirlpool, "I on the other hand," he placed his other hand over the water and cupped it. The water began flooding out a miniature waterfall falling out of the open sides of his hands.

"So you have the water essence," Jun observed.

"Yes, along with," he lifted his hand to reveal a tiny whirlpool.

"Wind. You have two."

"It IS possible to have more than one, along with the capabilities to combine the said elements to create a whole new one. This is known as a Kekkai genkai," He placed his hand over the puddle one more time. He lifted it, and the puddle was frozen, "Combining water and wind, you get ice."

Jun's eyes opened wider at the thought of the many combinations, "What is my second essence?" he asked.

"Dont know. Not sure if you even have a second essence. You could possibly have your own specialties," he said looking deep into Jun's pure black eyes,"But it is wise to work on one essence....or...abilities at a time. That way you don't get ahead of yourself, and make it harder for yourself to control both. My advice for now is to focus on your wind essence. Maybe through that training you could discover a special ability, maybe not."

Jun bowed a slight bow, "Thank you, Genso Shiatamme."

Genso returned a slight bow, "I am happy to be of service of the youth and brethren of Kirigakure," if it was one thing that Jun could tell about Genso, is that with those chosen words he had witnessed the terrifying events that occured just a few days before as well. As they stared into each others eyes, it occured to Jun that Genso was one of the many shinobi helping pull villagers out of the crater after the village caved in.

"Well. Late!" Genso turned and continued on his way down the great Naruto bridge. He took his right hand out of his pocket and raised it in a goodbye gesture. Jun watched for a couple of more steps before turning back towards the water. The clouds and mist covered the sun, but for some reason, now he could see a sparkle in the water which he had failed to see before.

"Interesting indeed," he said to himself before he began to make his way back to the village, slowly.
