Once the stadium has been cleared of people and the no longer necessary decorations the Hokage and a fair number of assistants have begun their preparations for the day to come. They had a lot of work to do: to pull off what Ukyo had in mind, he would need to draw a huge and very complex seal on the whole arena's grounds. The amount of power accumulated into it, thought completely unexpected by anyone but the creator, wasn't going to be so great: it would only need slightly more than the amount of chakra needed to put all the people in the circle to sleep, which was at the level of a rather simple genjutsu. However, the complexity of this jutsu was so great that even Ukyo himself wouldn't be able to execute it on even one person without at least a small seal. He once again thanked fate that it led him and Kazuki together, as a seal of this size would be impossible to put to work, not to mention keep it energy-efficient, without the principles of descriptive alchemy. However, even with all the preparations finished, there would only be a few people who could potentially activate it properly, not just putting the targets into a deep slumber. The reason for that was that the key to this massive jutsu working properly was the vampires' hypnotic ability, only combined with sleep-inducing techniques and brought to a very different, thought Ukyo wasn't certain whether more or less advanced, level of control over the mind.
The Hokage's assistants weren't exactly sure what they were doing of course. He gave them a detailed schematic view of the seal as it should turn out, only saying that it was important to the upcoming tests for the chance to become his apprentices. Of course, without fully understanding the principles of the seal or some of the symbols used, they did a below average job, but at least the huge seal was generally complete by nightfall, and Ukyo dismissed everyone. There was no sleep for him however: he needed to double-check the enormous seal, often correcting, improving or just fixing the parts which were drawn not by him. After that, he spent a few hours sealing up the seal, so that it wouldn't get destroyed as many people would stomp all over it in the afternoon. By the time he was done, it was already morning, and he could only thank his vampire nature which allowed him to stay awake for much longer times without losing so much efficiency as common people. Still, he would need all the energy he could have for the upcoming event, so he took the few remaining hours to get some rest. He wasn't sure if this whole thing is going to turn out fine, to tell the truth. Sure, he prepared all the theory for this jutsu, the necessary preparations, specific properties and how it even worked at all, but he never before tested it with more than one person, and now he was going to do it with several dozens simultaneously. I guess I should just concentrate on the world rather than each of the "characters". The concept of this great technique was controlling people's dreams, but on a very deep level. For those under the effects of the jutsu, it was just like the real world: they could get tired, hungry, ill, hurt - anything. And if he made sure that they forgot about the real real world and thought up some background for their dream characters, they would never be able to tell the difference. There was an interesting fact though: if someone died in such a dream, they wouldn't instantly wake up, they just wouldn't see any dreams until they woke up, of course, unless the user of the technique would make them see another dream.
By noon, everything in the stadium was ready. There were lots of simple beds, though they looked more like wooden boards on legs with puny mattresses on top, standing all over the arena, within the boundaries of the now concealed seal. As the participants arrived, they were asked to pick a random bed and wait until further instructions. As all the ninja who were competing took their positions, Ukyo appeared in the elevated stands high above the arena. Good day to you all, my friends. I know, all of you must be thinking just what is going on and what kind of test this is going to be. Well, I've come up with an absolutely unique and very interesting solution to the problem of holding different tests for so many participants. We are going to dream our way through this, - he said with a smile, and as expected, his words caused a lot of noise. Allow me to explain. All of you will be put into sleep via the use of ninjutsu, and you are going to have specific and very realistic dreams. Don't ask me how this works, I don't quite fully understand it myself. What you need to know is that you will all be taking part in a massive conflict between several armies on a vast island. Note that while in this dream, you will not be aware it's just a dream, about your life or anything of the real world, including friends and possibly relatives. Your position and starting allegiance in the dream world will be determined automatically depending on your ambition and personality, and each of you is going to be supplied with a generic background matching the former two. The knowledge of the world will also "appear" in your heads when you go to sleep. Now, for the purpose of this test. It will allow me to see you strength, leadership, strategic abilities, ambitions and loyalty. In this dream, you will get tired, you will get hungry, you will get sick, you will get hurt and you can die. However, you don't have to worry about it, because it won't have any effects in the real world and you wouldn't remember me saying this while being there. I guess I should also note that all your abilities and skills will match those you have in the real world, and the conflict you will partake in is between common armies, not ninja, so each of you will be worth many people. Now, I would ask everybody to lie down, for their own safety, and the personnel to clear the area. We shall begin... now! - Ukyo emphasized the last word as he formed a single hand seal and started pouring chakra into the seal to activate it. In less than two minutes, the techniques started taking effect, putting the whole stadium to sleep.
As the shinobi in the arena fell asleep, their knowledge was "rebuilt", most of it sealed away and something new, that was necessary for the integrity of their dream, added. They would know that there was a land which was in a state of chaos for over a century, different feudal lords constantly struggling for territory and influence, until a few great leaders appeared. But that didn't bring peace to the land, it probably only made it worse, as now massive armies would meet in battle quite often, spreading much more devastation than a single feudal lord ever could. Nobody was safe from this endless conflict, smaller feudal lords being forced to pledge allegiance to one of the two major powers, and powerful clans being drawn into the conflict because of its spread all over the land. Eventually, only two major forces remained: the Eastern and Western army. Strangely enough, while their goals did not differ much, and neither did their means, their ideals did. The Western Army was much fewer in numbers, but its most influential generals fought for justice and honor, as well as to make the land a peaceful place. The Eastern Army however sought victory through numbers, and its commander believed that peace in a land like theirs was only possible when there was nobody left to oppose you. However, despite the heated conflict between the two armies, not all was well inside of them either. The leader of the Maeda clan, which was part of the Eastern Army, had long ago left his clan with a fair amount of soldiers to fight for what he believed in with the Western Army, rather than to fight for power with the remainders. At the same time, the Mori clan, which was a part of the Western Army, sought mostly to benefit from the conflict and couldn't be relied on in a bad situation. These two examples weren't the only two problems within the armies, as old conflicts between allies could spark tensions and ruin strategy in a battle. In addition to that, a few powerful clans in the north which were left out of the conflict caused trouble to both sides from time to time, and a lot of bandits appeared all across the land. It was a fragile balance, and it had to be broken soon.
OOC: Ok, hopefully that was a decent enough setting. Now, just to clear things up: we are talking late Feudal Japan kind of thing, when one army consists of many feudal lords, each with their own troops. Now, YOU are going to define what your characters will be and what they are going to do. The list of who you may be includes but is not limited to:
1. Just a powerful person with their own agenda in the midst of battle
2. A member of a ninja clan who either works for someone or him(her)self
3. A "general" (feudal lord or just renowned warrior and leader) on whichever side (including your own)
What you do in this world is solely up to you, but I'd like it to stay IC (your personalities haven't changed) and make sense. And please give at least a little narrative information about who you are in the dreamworld in your first posts
EDIT: Oh yeah, don't forget to say a few words how you arrived to the stadium again and stuff _________________

Shizuka entered with Maruko by foot the next morning, and was yawning as they went, being she kept herself up all night, unable to sleep. She had watched the sun rise, just hoping that she could do well on this test, and gain some good training, or atleast some knowlege and ability to show for in her new village.
When she heard what the test entitled, she was a bit confused, until she fell asleep, and realized she had no idea what it would be like until she experienced it.
She woke up on the field of battle, her hair in her eyes, and her arms hurting. She had just gotten done fighting off an opponent when she had been hit from behind and trampled by a few soldiers running past. She knew the air to be slightly humid, storm clouds had been up in the air with lightning striking almost nightly on this field, and she knew that the General couldn't care that much for what happened to her or any other soldier, just as long as justice was served. She was just a lowly captain of a small force, and those of her force were mainly used for frontline fighting.
She kept her Naginata at ready when she got back up, and slashed into a group of soldiers. She wouldn't fail, if she could help it, though she felt that the only reason she had been placed into a command position was that she had caught and taken care of quite a few of the enemies officers, and that had been primarely accidental.
Her Lean body twisted as she slashed another soldier that had came at her, and she only hoped that those of her squad where alright, even though she was certain that she had nothing to worry about. She knew them each, for they had all grown up together, and trained together. She could only hope that they were not getting in over their heads. They were all known for their speed atleast, but sometimes their pride got them to bite off more than they could chew.
She saw the next one coming at her, and felt that they were too slow, as she slashed the guy in half, and turned for the next batch, this would be a long day. _________________ http://z3.invisionfree.com/Dark_Shinobis/index.php?act=idx

Contrary to Maruko's usual self, she actually got a good night's sleep. That was good, for she had no idea what she was in for today, and wanted to be as prepared as humanely possible. She walked with Shizuka, who hadn't gotten a very good night's sleep, and listened passively to the Hokage's explanation of the test. It sounded kind of fun. A challenge, maybe. Then she settled herself onto the ground and slowly drifted off into the dream.
Maruko woke in the middle of a battle, lying on the ground, nose almost pressed to a bloodied sword stuck in the ground in front of her. She reached up and gingerly touched a lump on the side of her head. Ow. She pushed herself into a sitting position, deftly hearing the whistle of an oncoming sword. Maruko grabbed the hilt of the sword stuck in the ground with her left hand, pulling it out and blocking the sword attack, arm shaking a little bit from fatigue. She rolled to her feet, brandishing her new weapon, and faced her enemy, pivoting through his defenses and slashing him across the chest.
Maruko happened to just be a soldier. Virtually useless, according to most people, even more useless due to the fact that she was a woman. The battle she had been fighting in had been going on for awhile now. Maruko had lost count a while ago, but due to the sun in the sky, it must have been around three hours they've been fighting. Maruko's only weapon in this fight were her flexibility and natural grace and balance, she always tried to use this to the best effect. Detirmined to prove to her family that she wasn't worthless, she managed to fight through three more soldiers, but taking a hit to her shoulder.
Frowning in pain, she continued to try and fight for awhile, before a large, scary looking man managed to knock her sword out of her hand with his giant battle axe. Maruko dodged the first swing of the battle axe, but knew that she had to find a new weapon quick, searching around, ideas circling in her mind. _________________

OOC: Wow, this is ridiculous. What do you people think I put that big OOC part for? For you to ignore it? No, not really. So here's a few questions:
1. What do you think the chances are for a ninja-level warrior to remain among simple foot soldiers in a Feudal Japan setting? And why are all three of you "skilled nobodys"? Skill comes mostly from training, and simple soldiers don't get much training.
2. Why did you just assume there was a huge battle out there and all three of you fight in it?
3. Am I the only one who sees a difference between a war and a battle?
4. Why didn't any of you give any kind of clarification to who your characters are when I specifically asked for it?
You three are killing me. Anyway, since Shui doesn't seem to get on much lately, I'll get things moving a little now
IC: The battle seemed to be raging, however, there was a strange calm in the camps of both armies. The first reason was, planning a battle with emotions getting in your way was a sure way to defeat. The other reason must have been that the front line was pretty far away from both camps. Another similarity between the camps was that right now, both the commanders were standing over the map of the surrounding territory, planning a move that will assure their victory.
In the Western Army camp, the commander and his several most trusted generals and friends were discussing the possibilities. They had the initial advantage, having taken a fort atop a mountain they would be hard to drive out, the siege would take weeks and the Eastern Army's casualties would be far greater. However, they were unable to send their troops on the offense efficiently, as there was only one path from the fort to the plains below. Right now, all we can do is sit here and keep the Saitou armies at bay. I had sent Ishimaru to circle around the mountains and attack them from the south, letting us maneuver and also throwing the enemy into disarray, however, he would arrive in an hour at best. Until then, we hold. Also, I wanted to discuss another matter with you all. If we win this battle, it will solidify our position in this region. However, from here to the river Usa it's all open plains, the territory where we couldn't win even despite our cavalry due to the sheer size of the enemy army. This is why, if we win here... Amon, I want you to lead the cavalry around north while Yumi and Nanaho will go around the plains from south. It is essential that Saitou does not learn of your movement. We will try to draw his attention and then march towards the river, where I am sure they built an outpost. Yumi and Nanaho will cross the river further south and then turn to cut off their retreat and push them to our side of the bridge. Once most of their forces will be on one side, Amon and his cavalry will charge them from the flank and throw them into chaos. If this works, it will be an unconditional victory.
While the strategists made plans for this battle and the ones to come, soldiers were doing their part by fighting and dying. However, while most of them were of equal skill, or rather lack thereof, officers and veterans, trained in the way of the sword, stood out, but none as much as one man in the midst of the Eastern Army. First thing that was noticeable about him, was his height: the man was practically a giant, almost seven feet high, and his pale blond hair were kept up in a strange ponytail, making him seem even taller. His weapon was also rather unusual: a long staff, with a double-spear on one end and a heavy club on the other, probably to balance it out. However, nobody would be foolish enough to suggest this man was with the Eastern Army as cries of pain and agony were coming from his direction a lot. There were few who didn't know this man but also few who knew his face. He was Taiki Maeda, probably the greatest warrior to ever live. _________________

OOC: I know I'm breaking post order, but high chance won't be able to post for a couple of days after this. A couple of things: I know my post was far from what would be "good" roleplaying, but I have been busy dealing with Hurricane Ike, so a very short post was what I could muster.
I'm just going to start over, cause I didn't like it anymore than you did Sench, and had no direction to go with it. If breaking posting rule is a problem for you guys, I apologize in advance.
IC:
THe shinobi growling around him, the hecctic fast paced whirl of village activity, and the clouds above Toakge's head faded away as he sunk into the realms of the subconcious and dreaming. He was not knew to this kind of experience, meditation frequently had him exploring mental elements that would seem supernatural and otherworldly to other ninja. Visions flashed into his mind, of the past, present, future, just fantasies, who could tell, where they waking images or the images of sleep. He din't know, nor did hie care, simply embracing them, finding himself in a different place.
******************
Banished, the ex-commander thought, his eyes filling with tears of anger and clenching his hands together. He had given twenty years of his life in service of the Eastern Army and what did he get in return? An excommunication. It wasn't my fault. He stubbornly thought of the the incident that had cost him everything. He had come from poor farming family, barely enough money to pay for a small shack of a house and food. He had clawed his way up to the higher ranks of the army, serving devotedly, never questioning orders and following them to the letter of the command. His brown hair was streaked with gray and his age was closer to forty than to thirty, though Tokage seldom admitted it and he had a long and impressive record in the army.
A commander with a disciplined legion, all who would have given their lives for the glory of the Eastern Army. But, that one stop. He had been court-marshalled, thought to be in leauge with the West, and only his service with the Army and his many victories had kept him from being outright killed. Weary from a long day of marching, his troops had stopped overnight on the outskirts of a neutral town, settting up tents and quickly falling asleep, or getting drunk from complimentary beer from a local tavern. However, the town had not been neutral, and as his troops lay exhuasted or incoherantly drunk, Western operatives had snuck into the camp, bypassing the inebriated guards, and slaughtered all of his soldiers. Why they had let him live, Tokage didn't know. Perhaps only to see how far he could fall.
He remembered the night on the farm, hearing the stories of the wars and battles, and he had no dream other than to become a grand hero. His body still had the physical prowess of a man half his age, and those powerful muscles tightened as he saw two Eastern generals riding towards him from his spot in the tree. They were flanked by ten guards, and making their way to a peaceful neutral city, where they would fight with words and diplomacy rather than the sword or ninjutsu.
Focusing his chakra into his hands, Tokage quietly spoke a few words and silently commanded instructions to apparently nothing. But when two horses tripped and fell to the ground, their legs tripped up by two giant blue scorpions, the size of wolves, all the help he needed arrived. Two more red scorpions burst from the ground, their arched tails snapping into the unprotected sides of the horses, and their claws crushing bone and splintering one rider's leg, his cry a terrible shout of more to come.
With that, Toakge flung himself down upon the riders, all his fury showing his his gaze, and he lunged to the guards and generals in a savage attack, all his anger venting in his powerful strikes. Make them fear me, for they have nothing that can stop me. _________________ The world will look up and shout, "Save us!"
